I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is water still leaking, turn off the service valve to the appliance or fixture if you can, or go straight to the main valve for your property. If you are unable to find a water valve to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside the house to depressurise the system and reduce the leak.

Once that is done, give our team a ring, whatever the day or time is. We will be there promptly to fix the leak.

While waiting, remove any important possessions from the area, and clean up any water or put a container to catch the drips. If you have turned the mains water off, switch off the heating for the hot water as well.

Help, I don�t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.

The toilet has its own tap alongside the toilet bowl.
